Q. When can I start wearing glasses after rhinoplasty?
Usually, one month is recommended, but you can start wearing light glasses right after the surgery. Depending on the shape of the temples, it may or may not have a significant effect on the implant. If you can wear glasses over the splint, then it should have no problems. When you wear glasses after the removal of the splint, it should not have any effects on the result other than mild pain and marks on the nose. Avoid heavy glasses, and you don’t need to worry about the result due to wearing glasses.
Q. Does rhinitis get worse after rhinoplasty?
Rhinitis is an allergic disease, which may have some effect immediately after the surgery, but ends up intact, with no improvement or worsening over time. However, if you have septum deviation or hypernasal concha, you may suffer from a sinus infection or nasal stuffiness. Of course, rhinoplasty is based on the analysis of both aesthetical and functional problems, so rhinitis can be usually treated.
Q. Is it necessary to use an implant for hump reduction?
Hump reduction is an operation to smooth out protruding parts in the middle of the nasal bridge. If the hump is minor and you do not want a higher nose, shaving a protruding bone or cartilage on the bridge of the nose should be sufficient. However, in severe cases, both the cartilage and bone must be removed, which requires reshaping the bridge. In this case, we recommend the insertion of an implant or autologous tissue. Raising the tip of the nose with autologous cartilage reduces the amount of resection and helps to create a smooth and straight nose line.
Q. My skin is very thin. Would it cost more to have a rhinoplasty?
If you have thin skin, there is more possibility that a large implant may look unnatural or visible. It is a better idea to use a relatively lower and smaller implant for a natural look, and often autologous dermis fat or temporalis fascia covered implant is used instead of a silicone implant alone. Recently, implants made of artificial dermis have been used, and the skin thickens and rises as if there aren’t any implants, which minimizes possible side effects. Prices may vary depending on the use of autologous dermis, temporalis fascia, artificial dermis, etc.
Q. Does rhinoplasty have epicanthoplasty effect?
If the nose bridge gets higher, then the skin around the area gets tightened, possibly creating an epicanthoplasty effect. Sometimes, this is used appropriately, but if you don’t want a narrower look, the height of the nose can be adjusted to make a more harmonized look.
